The Company Profile & Objective

The I Ching Advisory Consultants Limited was founded by Mr. Spencer Yau in 1997.  The purpose of this establishment is to have the ¡§I¡¨, that is, the wisdom of the universe, promoted and applied to our daily lives and not to have it treated as curios or fossils.  Application of the ¡§I¡¨ means the making use of the ancient philosophy of I Ching in solving the problems nowadays and in formulating strategies in the fields of economics, investments, politics, management, etc.  In doing so, we strive to break up the traditional binding ¡§I¡¨ ideas like destiny and ethical obstacles.  We are more than willing to help people jump over the hurdles in the course of learning I Ching and to assist them resolve various problems in their lives, while fulfilling our target of promoting the use of I Ching.  ¡@

The Founder and His Way through I Ching¡K.

Through studying Zhou I (I Ching stream from the Zhou dynasty) for 20 years, Spencer Yau finds that the conventional Han I and Song I (I Ching streams from the Han and Song dynasties respectively) are inadaptable to and inadequate for modern life changes.  Moreover, he does not want to see the diminution of the spirit of the orthodox Zhou I since Han and Song dynasties and decides to formulate the ideas of the two essential elements of I Ching, viz. Cyclicity and Relativity, into theories, aiming at promoting his ideal of ¡§ I Ching for practical use¡¨.

In his early years when Spencer was engaged in the finance business, he did put into practice the Cyclicity and Relativity theorems, and together with his own expertise in the field, he had been able to achieve outstanding performance in investment and warrant uniqueness in analysing political forum.

Spencer started his career in retail banking with a local leading Chinese bank.  When gold and foreign exchange business boomed in the early eighties, Spencer took the chance to join a German bank and a local bank as Chief Gold Dealer and Chief FX Dealer accountable to guaranteed profit contribution.

Spencer migrated to Canada in the late eighties and worked in a local bank in Toronto, responsible for procedural controlling of the inward and outward remittances of corporate clients.

After working in the banking and financial business for over two decades, Spencer further developed his career with a more comprehensive perspective.  He joined a local telecommunication company in the early nineties as Operation Manager.  Apart from taking charge of operational and management aspects, he participated in the preparation work leading to listing of the company that was successfully listed in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange eventually.

It was not until 1997 that Spencer decided to put into practice his findings in I Ching and set up the I Ching Advisory Consultants Limited where divination advice service is provided.  On the other hand, in order to promote his ideal of ¡¥I Ching for practical use¡¦ as ¡¥I-Investment¡¦ and ¡¥I-Management¡¦, Spencer maintains this website www.17ing.com where the various articles both serious and casual are written in applying his I Ching theorems to daily lives.  He also designs and teaches in classes of ¡¥Introduction to I Ching¡¦ and ¡¥Intermediate I Ching¡¦, which are well received.

Spencer writes frequently in these years.  For instance, he has been a column writer for the former 8 Magazine.  He applied the Zhou I philosophy to commenting on the then economic trends.  In so doing, he toned down the intricacy of the philosophic notions for easy reading, and made proposals of investment strategies.  His writing style was absolutely unprecedented.  On the other hand, he provided free divination and advice service to his then readers, which was rather popular at that time.  At present, he writes financial commentaries for Hong Kong Economical Journal Monthly, Benchmark, Sun Times Magazine, etc from time to time.

Spencer has spared no efforts in exploring and researching into the wisdom of Zhou I. His findings will be publicized in due course.  One of the paper ¡§ From the Conception of Gu Jiegang¡¦s Opposition to Creating Things by Viewing the Images to the Proposals of the Contents of Creating Things by Viewing the Images Being Put forward Earlier Than in Zhou Yi¡¨ was published in the most reputable journal of The University of Shandong ¡¥Studies of Zhou Yi¡¦, Issue No. 40 in 1999.

Spencer was also interviewed by Economic Digest, Reader¡¦s Digest and Express Weekly.

                                                               The Logo

Our logo is a dimensional Tai Chi diagram named Dragon-Tornado Tai Chi.

Undoubtedly, the traditional Tai Chi diagram is great. It represents the meaning of Yin Yang where black and white represents Contrariety whereas white in black and black in white represents Cyclicity.  Yet it is not without defects.  We believe that it is Relativity and Cyclicity, instead of Contrariety and Cyclicity, which are the 2 elements of the universe.  Relativity includes Contrariety but Contrariety cannot fully express Relativity.  The Tai Chi diagram is far from comprehensive in the sense that it conveys the idea of Contrariety only but not Relativity.

Most of the time, Cyclicity and Relativity are not to be used separately.  In tracking the cycle of the occurrence of certain events, we should not ignore the element of Relativity, or else it would be dimensionally inaccurate.   A plane Tai Chi diagram is obviously in lack of this important element Relativity.  For the same reason, in saying that ¡§ history always repeats itself ¡§, we also lack the consideration of Relativity.  The ¡§go¡¨ and ¡§ return¡¨ elements in a cycle track may not be on the same plane, but may act more like a hurricane or a level helix. Though the cycle track has cyclical continuation, it happens in dimensional course.

The traditional Tai Chi diagram can only express the Cyclicity and  Contrariety in the bilateral shift of ¡¥Yin Yang¡¦.  Only the dimensional Dragon-Tornado Tai Chi diagram can include both Cyclicity and Relativity.  It is made on the basis of the traditional Tai Chi diagram with the addition of the concept of ¡§Cycle in Dimension¡¨ to express Relativity.  It is how our logo derives.
